February is National Pet Dental Health Month! To celebrate, this month’s articles will cover information about your animal’s mouth.
Dental health is an important aspect to your pet’s overall health. A diseased mouth can lead to severe infection, lost teeth, and difficulty eating. The following are tips to help keep your pet’s mouth in top condition.
1. Brush your dog’s teeth. Brushing is the most effective and recommended method to prevent plaque build-up and gum disease. You can purchase kits at the pet store that include a toothbrush and toothpaste meant for your dog.
3. Use a Prescription Dental Diet. Some pets are resistant to tooth brushing, but are particularly prone to dental disease. Your veterinarian may recommend that your pet try a prescription dog food made for dogs with moderate to severe dental disease.
